Incursion Events - Paid tutoring Job
(2-3 days)
Location: Presbyterian Ladies’ College Sydney

ConnectEd Code is delivering huge events this year for PLC Sydney (in Croyden). I’m looking for ~20 staff to help at this event. We’ll be helping the children build escape rooms with tech, so it’ll be a lot of fun!

This event is coming up soon (8 weeks away) so we’re very keen to hear from anyone who wants to be involved.

If you are keen or have questions don’t hesitate to get in touch!

How to Sign up!

Tutors will be paid between $30 and $45 an hour depending on the role you're in and your experience level.

If you're interested in the job opportunity please fill out this form!

You can also message me (or email me at renee@connectedcode.org to ask questions).

Are you interested?

If you're interested in being involved then you should come along to the info and learning session. (Date and Time TBC, week of the 22nd of August)

If you can’t make the session, but do want to be involved for the Event, please email me.

The purpose of the session is:

  • To understand what experience you already have in coding, embedded systems, and teaching

  • Give you a chance to learn Kookaberry skills and see if you would be comfortable teaching those

  • So how you'd work as part of the team

This is going to be a big event so there are some skills that are preferable. If you have some or lots of these skills then this job might be perfect for you:

  • Experience coding Kookaberries, Micro:Bits, or other Micropython embedded systems (or any embedded systems at all, eg: Arduino)

  • Confidence in Python and confidence debugging it (variables, loops, if statements are essentials)

  • Experience in teaching Python to high school students (if you've tutored GPN a few times, or tutored NCSS, etc, you'll have this covered)

Here’s some info about the event:

Escape Room Building (Year 8) - September 19th, 20th, 22nd

A three day event during school hours (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday) where we'll be teaching all of Year 8 (160 girls) coding in a fun "build an escape room" theme.

On day one students will have classes on how to use various components, like radio, lights, buttons, etc.

One days 2 and 3 students will then work in teams to create a small scale escape room prototype using and combing the knowledge they gained on day 1, with ciphers, keys, locks and hidden messages to design and build a themed escape room.

Over the days you will be helping deliver classes on day 1 and then working with groups to help them create their contraptions on days 2 and 3, helping them debug, and keeping them on track.
